What We Upgraded on Our Deep Hole Machines in September 2026
This month, we completed another technical upgrade to the control system used on our deep hole machines.
To be clear, this was not simply a screen replacement or a software update.
The reason behind the upgrade came from something much more practical.
When a deep hole machine is running every day, customers usually care about the same questions:
Is the machine easy enough for operators to use?
Can abnormal cutting conditions be noticed early?
Is the spindle speed really stable during machining?
And if something starts to go wrong, can the operator see it before a tool breaks or a workpiece is damaged?
These are the problems we wanted to improve.

Easier operation for the people who actually run the machine
One of the most obvious changes is the new 15-inch industrial HMI.
But the screen itself is not the important part.
What matters is that the operating interface has been simplified.
Instead of depending heavily on complicated CNC macro programming, the operator can work with a more visual parameter setting interface.
Common process parameters can also be saved and reused.
For customers producing similar parts repeatedly, this makes daily operation easier and helps reduce unnecessary differences between operators.
We know from experience that many factories do not want a machine that only one senior technician knows how to run.
They want a machine that can be understood, operated and maintained by the production team.
That is one of the main reasons we redesigned the operating side of the system.
Making the cutting condition more visible
Deep hole machining has one natural difficulty: most of the cutting happens where the operator cannot see it.
Once the tool enters the workpiece, the process becomes much less visible than ordinary external machining.
So we added real-time monitoring of spindle and feed torque.
The operator can see the change in load during machining instead of waiting for a problem to become obvious.
If the feed torque becomes abnormal and exceeds the preset limit, the system can issue an alarm and stop the feed automatically.
The purpose is very simple.
We want the machine to react before an abnormal load develops into a broken tool, spindle jamming or a damaged part.
Watching actual spindle speed, not only the number on the program
Another area we focused on is spindle speed stability.
A programmed speed does not always mean the spindle is actually running at that speed throughout the entire process.
Load changes, transmission problems, inverter issues or incorrect settings can all affect the actual speed.
The upgraded system can monitor the real spindle speed and compare it with the allowed range.
If the speed goes outside that range, the machine can give an alarm.
This gives the operator another way to notice possible problems early instead of discovering them after several parts have already been affected.
More stable control during machining
The new system also uses digital bus communication together with spindle speed feedback and PID closed-loop adjustment.
In simple terms, the machine does not only receive a target speed.
It also checks the actual speed continuously and corrects the difference when necessary.
For deep hole machining, this kind of stability matters because changes in cutting speed can influence surface finish, dimensional consistency and tool condition.
Why did we make this upgrade?
We did not make these changes just to add more functions to the specification sheet.
The real goal is to make the machine easier to operate, easier to understand and safer to run in daily production.
For us, a good deep hole machine should not only be able to make the hole.
It should also help the operator understand what is happening during the process.
That is the direction behind our September 2026 control system upgrade.
