Background and Challenges

This client is a core supplier of molds for globally renowned brands of smart phones and wearable devices. When processing the fine cooling water channels (with diameters ranging from φ1 to φ3mm) required for precision components such as mobile phone frames and lens modules, the requirements for the diameter, straightness, positional accuracy and inner wall surface quality of the holes have reached an almost exacting micron level. Any defect will cause deformation or a decrease in yield of injection-molded products. Their previous equipment could not simultaneously meet the processing accuracy requirements for fine deep holes and the extremely high surface finish requirements.

Solution

We offer a combined process solution of high-precision micro deep hole gun drilling with "drilling instead of grinding" and subsequent deep hole honing.

Micro deep hole gun drilling: Firstly, it completes the initial processing of fine deep holes. With extremely high dynamic accuracy and stability, it ensures the straightness and positional accuracy of the holes.

Precision deep hole honing machine: Subsequently, the inner walls of the micro-holes are mirror-polished to completely eliminate drilling marks, achieving a mirror-like effect of Ra < 0.2μm, ensuring no coolant residue and maximizing heat exchange efficiency.
